What is graduation standing?

Graduating from 9 1Ãâ·Ñ°æÏ isn’t just about completing your courses—it’s about meeting the academic standards that define your degree. Your graduation standing is determined by your cumulative GPA and, in some cases, your program type. These requirements ensure that every graduate meets the university’s expectations for academic achievement.

Undergraduate degrees

GPA requirements

To graduate with your undergraduate degree from 9 1Ãâ·Ñ°æÏÂ, there are minimum cumulative GPA requirements that you must meet.Ìý If your GPA is high enough, you will graduate with distinction and receive that designation on your academic record.

A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.00 is required for the awarding of an undergraduate degree in the Faculties of:

  • Agriculture
  • Architecture and Planning
  • Arts and Social Sciences
  • Computer Science
  • Engineering
  • Health
  • Management
  • ³§³¦¾±±ð²Ô³¦±ðÌý
  • A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 is required for the awarding of Diploma in Technology in the Faculty of Agriculture.

Graduation with distinction

For non-honours students in undergraduate degree programs, and diploma students in the Faculty of Agriculture.

Faculties of Agriculture, Architecture and Planning, Arts and Social Sciences, Computer Science, Engineering, Science, and Management 

Students who have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.70 upon graduation will be placed on the Distinction list.

Faculty of Health

Students who have a degree GPA of 3.70, as calculated in the earned credit hours section of their degree audit, upon graduation will be placed on the Distinction list. 

Faculties of Architecture and Planning, Computer Science, and Engineering

Students  who have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.85 upon graduation will be placed on the Sexton Distinction list, instead of the Distinction list.

Faculty of Medicine

To determine which students will graduate with distinction,  performance and distinctions from all four years are considered. This determination is made by the faculty's awards committee.

Honours degrees recognize advanced academic achievement and typically require higher GPA standards than regular programs. Each faculty sets its own requirements, and students should confirm details with their department or honours advisor.Ìý

Arts and Social Sciences

Honours

Minimum GPA: 2.70

Included in the GPA calculation are courses in the honours subject(s) and the single subject chosen for two credits outside the honours subject or, where appropriate, the minor subject.

First-Class Honours

Minimum GPA: 3.70

Included in the GPA calculation are courses in the honours subject(s) and the single subject chosen for two credits outside the honours subject or, where appropriate, the minor subject.

Science

Honours

Minimum GPA: 3.0

Included in the GPA calculation are courses in the honours subject(s).First-Class Honours

First-class honours

Minimum GPA: 3.70

Included in the GPA calculation are courses in the honours subject(s).

Computer Science

Honours

Minimum GPA: 3.0 in all of the courses in computer science.

First-class honours

Minimum GPA: 3.70 in all of the courses in computer science.

Kinesiology

First-class honours

Minimum GPA: 3.70

Included in the GPA calculation are courses in the honours subject(s).
