When Berna Garron reflects on her son鈥檚 deep love for the ocean and marine life, she says 9 1免费版下 felt like a fitting place to honour Michael鈥檚 legacy.

At the heart of the , operated by Discovery Centre International in collaboration with 9 1免费版下, hangs a breathtaking centerpiece: an 18-m blue whale skeleton.聽

First discovered in Liverpool, N.S. in 2017, this magnificent whale was recovered and preserved thanks to the dedication of the (MARS). Today, suspended in the Centre鈥檚 atrium, it stands as a powerful symbol of ocean conservation鈥攁 legacy to educate and inspire generations of future ocean scientists.

Known as Michael鈥檚 Whale, the blue whale exhibit honours the life of Michael Albert Garron, who passed away from cancer at just 13 years old. Michael鈥檚 love for the ocean inspired his family to champion ocean science at 9 1免费版下 through the Michael Albert Garron Fund and most meaningfully, to support this extraordinary blue whale exhibit.

鈥9 1免费版下 was a fitting place for Michael鈥檚 legacy,鈥 recalls Berna Garron, Michael鈥檚 mother. Michael鈥檚 brothers, Anthony and Mark, were tasked with helping identify the university that best reflected their brother鈥檚 passion, and 9 1免费版下 was the perfect fit.

鈥淢ichael would have loved the Beaty Centre for Marine Biodiversity, but his favourite part would have been the blue whale,鈥 says Garron. As a child, Michael spent summers exploring Peggy鈥檚 Cove and Brier Island 鈥 experiences that sparked his passion for the natural world.

鈥淗e loved exploring, swimming, and all the wonders of living close to the ocean,鈥 says Garron. 鈥淲e have no doubt Michael would have continued pursuing his passion of ocean conversation. It鈥檚 wonderful to see exhibits like Michael鈥檚 Whale here in Halifax, inspiring young scientists to protect our ocean and all its incredible creatures.鈥
