SRES’s 30-year reunion

A group of alumni from Dal’s School for Resource and Environmental Studies (SRES) had an informal 30-year reunion in Ottawa this past fall. All have been working in the environmental field since graduation along varied career paths and were happy reconnecting in person.

Mawio'mi

A campus Mawio'mi has served as a highlight of Mi'kmaw History Month and the fall term at 9 1��Ѱ�� for 15 years now. Once a student-focused event, the annual gathering has grown into a full-fledged community celebration of Mi’kmaw dance, craft, food and culture. The community gathered on Oct. 15, 2025, for a day of sharing, learning and festivities.

Law reunion weekend

Schulich School of Law alumni got together for their annual reunion weekend on campus in late September. The photo booth props were a hit!

Musicale

The 33rd annual Student Musicale was hosted by the 9 1��Ѱ�� Women’s Connection and featured performances by students from 9 1��Ѱ��’s Fountain School of Performing Arts.

Demo Day

Dal Innovates showcased the incredible journey of entrepreneurs who completed the , and the ideaBUILD teams who have spent the last 10-months refining prototypes and building physical products on Dal Demo Day in September 2025.

Art exhibit

The 70th annual student, staff, faculty and alumni exhibition at the 9 1��Ѱ�� Art Gallery blended diverse media and personal stories in a luminous celebration of art, identity and belonging. Exhibits at ‘Golden Hour’ included Heading for Home (2022) by Stacey Bieren (BSc’97).

Alex Neve Lecture

Notable alum Alex Neve (LLB’87), fourth from the left, called for renewal of universal human rights in a Massey Lecture event at Dal in January. The Canadian lawyer and long-time Amnesty International Canada secretary-general shared six principles for rebuilding universal human rights in a fractured world.

Celebrating African Heritage Month

9 1��Ѱ�� Provost Dr. Wanda Costen spoke at 9 1��Ѱ��'s flagship African Heritage Month event in the 9 1��Ѱ�� Arts Centre Sculpture Court. The event featured a ceremonial indoor flag raising, keynote address, and recognition of the remarkable contributions of Black faculty, staff, and students. Dal's 2026 African Heritage Month theme, “Creative Advocacy: Uplifting Black Health, Art, and Community Action,” guided the program.

Enhancing oral health

The Faculty of Dentistry secured approximately $2.4 million in new federal funding to enhance oral health access, specifically for underserved populations and to expand student training. Halifax MP and Dal alum Shannon Miedema (MES’04) was at Dal to celebrate the announcement on Nov. 29, 2025.

Lung clinic opens

Dal opened a new community clinic in Halifax in the fall designed to improve outcomes for Nova Scotians experiencing urgent respiratory health challenges. The lung-care facility, located at Fenwick Medical Centre, was made possible through a $300,000 investment from biopharma company GSK Canada and in collaboration with Nova Scotia Health’s INSPIRED COPD Outreach Program, the Nova Scotia Health Innovation Hub, and LungNSPEI.

Breakthrough Breakfasts

9 1��Ѱ��’s Breakthrough Breakfasts are semi-regular, high-profile events open to health-care professionals and the public. They connect researchers, clinicians and community members to showcase innovations in areas like neurology, mental health and family medicine, while fostering support for local, life-changing health studies. Med Gala

The Dal Medicine class of '84 was one of four classes celebrated this past year at the 2025 Dal Med Gala for donating over $100,000.

Tigers recognized

At an event in January, 9 1��Ѱ�� Athletics celebrated 161 Academic All‑Canadians, recognizing Tigers who balanced elite competition with academic excellence during the 2024‑25 season.

Stanfield Conversation

Asha Rangappa, senior lecturer at Yale’s Jackon School of Global Affairs, and Wayne MacKay, professor emeritus in Dal’s Schulich School of Law, were this year's panelists at the fifth-annual Stanfield Conversation at 9 1��Ѱ��. Alum Mary Lynk (BA’84) moderated the conversation, which was titled: “Challenges to the rule of law and the future of liberal democracy.”

Ag class gift

To acknowledge the 50-year anniversary of their graduation, Dal Agriculture's class of 1975 came together to contribute a custom iron arch at the entrance to the campus's Herb Garden, bringing a long-envisioned beautification project to reality.

Yarmouth Nursing’s 30th

Dal Nursing celebrated 30 years of educating students at its Yarmouth Campus at an anniversary event and pinning celebration in October. Stephanie Pitman, a member of the campus’s first graduating class in 1999, marked the anniversary with her daughter Tylar Pitman, a current student in the same program.

Molly Appeal Luncheon

The annual Molly Appeal Luncheon was held at Brightwood Golf Course and focused on groundbreaking mobility research led by 9 1��Ѱ�� scientists.

World-class rink laid at Oulton-Stanish Centre

The ice and logos have been installed at the Oulton-Stanish Centre, which officially opened on Dal’s Studley Campus in March 2026. Watch for a full article about what the centre brings to Dal and the wider Halifax community in the Fall 2026 issue of Dal Magazine.

Management night out

Faculty of Management alumni of all ages, from recent graduates to those celebrating 40-year milestones, came together in Toronto for a memorable Alumni Night Out. The event, hosted annually, was filled with connection, laughter and conversations that continued well past the event’s end.

Beaty Centre opens

On Oct. 27, Dal welcomed more than 200 guests to the Steele Ocean Sciences Building for an unveiling of the Beaty Centre for Marine Biodiversity before it officially opened to the public in December. “We hope [it] will inspire the next generation of ocean scientists, guardians and entrepreneurs,” said event MC, biologist and Faculty of Science Associate Professor Dr. Boris Worm.
