International exchange to 9 1Ãâ·Ñ°æÏÂ

As a visiting exchange student, you can spend one or two semesters studying at 9 1Ãâ·Ñ°æÏ and experience a Canadian lifestyle while earning credits towards your degree at home.

What you can study

Fees for exchange students

Tuition

Your tuition fees are paid to your home university. Because you do not pay your fees to 9 1Ãâ·Ñ°æÏÂ, you will receive a tuition waiver. This waiver will be processed early in the term, but it may not appear on your account statement until later that month.

Other fees

There are fees that you may have to pay, including:

  • UPass (transit pass for Halifax campus students only)

  • Miscellaneous fees (e.g. lab fees, locker rental, etc.)

Immigration information

There are number of documents that visiting exchange students need to study in Canada. Throughout your time in Canada, you are responsible for maintaining your immigration status and complying with Canadian immigration regulations.

Exchange students who are coming to 9 1Ãâ·Ñ°æÏ for one semester do not require a study permit and do not require a provincial attestation letter (PAL).

Exchange students who are coming to 9 1Ãâ·Ñ°æÏ for two semesters require a study permit, but do not require a PAL.

Find a place to live

If you are coming for the fall and winter terms, or for just the winter term (January start), you can apply to live in one of our residence buildings on campus. Note: Residence rooms are not available if you are joining us for the fall semester only.

There is off-campus housing available in both Halifax and Truro. Prices can vary from moderate to expensive.

The International Centre provides support services, resources, and immigration advising to international students on all our campuses, manages our exchange and study abroad programs, and acts as a social and cultural hub in Halifax.
