Congratulations to the Schulich School of Law鈥檚 Class of 2020! In the coming weeks, we鈥檒l feature Q&As with graduating law students who will share their thoughts on their time at Weldon. Today we're talking to Ellen Williams.
Why did you want to attend the Schulich School of Law?
As a true Maritimer, born and raised in Nova Scotia, I have always wanted to go to Schulich Law. The main motivator was the clinical law placement at the 9 1免费版下 Legal Aid Clinic. The program is a great way for students to give back to the community while supplementing their learning with hands on experience.聽聽
In what ways were you involved with the law school community?
I was very involved during law school. In my first year I was the Chair of the Law Students鈥 Society Board of Directors and then went on to be President of the LSS for two years. Being President allowed me to get involved with the alumni society, faculty council, orientation week, Weldon Welcome Days and the annual NSBS seminar. For me, getting involved was a way to represent fellow Weldonites and make lifelong friendships.
What is your favourite law school memory?
I have many fond memories but being a member of the Jessup Moot team is my favourite. Coached by the amazing Professor Currie, our team of Sarah Douglas, Sarah MacLeod and David Irvine and I represented Schulich Law at the national competition in Toronto. While it was hands-down the hardest thing during law school, it was also the most rewarding.
What will you miss most about Schulich Law?
My fellow Weldonites. I believe Schulich Law offers a different social environment in comparison to other schools. It is collegial, friendly and compassionate. Next year, I will miss the friendly faces from students, faculty and staff.
What are your post-graduation plans?
I started this law school journey with my husband 鈥 three weeks after we were married. Beginning this summer, we are both articling in Toronto. I am extremely excited to live and breathe criminal law as I article with Alan Gold.
